Samsung officially stopped the monthly security updates for the Galaxy Note 5 and the S6 edge+, so the new models, for the coming months, will not receive improvements.
As part of its monthly security updates, Samsung releases fixes for security vulnerabilities discovered in the Android and its core applications.
Needless to say, without updates, Galaxy Note 5 and S6 edge+ users will remain vulnerable to any attacks, making switching to another supported device a must.
While monthly security updates will no longer be sent to these devices, there is a possibility that Samsung will publish emergency patches if a significant vulnerability is discovered. However, switching to a supported device remains something all users should do.
Indeed, Samsung's discontinuation of the Note 5 and S6 edge+ does not surprise us much, as the company usually offers software support only for two years after the devices' release. These two models are in their third year of release, so it is expected for the company to neglect them and focus on the new releases.
Informationally, both the Note 5 and the S6 edge+ are two quite successful models for the giant, but we do not know at this point how many units are still being used.
