Secure any Android App with your fingerprint

Google has now added fingerprint scanning support natively to the Android ecosystem, so the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will be able to use this feature. Fortunately for Android owners, Google has also added fingerprint scanning support to the stock Android AOSP making it available to anyone who can use it.

However, your smartphone needs a fingerprint scanner to make full use of this API. Since the Google made the fingerprint API available for Android smartphones, many developers started implementing this feature in their apps. One of them is Rick Clephas

We show you how you can lock any app and ensure your privacy using your finger.

You need:

  • fingerprint scanner
  • Android 6.0 or later
Step 1: Install Rick Clephas' FingerSecurity

FingerSecurity is a free application that will allow you to block access to the applications of your choice using your fingerprint.

Step 2: Install the App

First you will be updated on the FingerSecurity functionality. After this update, you will have the opportunity to check the compatibility of your device again. Tap "Check Compatibility" and if you see a big green check mark, continue below.

It will then ask you to enter your fingerprint in your smartphone settings under "Security" if you haven't done so before. You will then be asked to create a backup password. Finally, FingerSecurity will ask "Usage Access." Tap "Open Settings" on the screen and then tap the "OK" button.

Step 3: Enable Additional Security Options (Optional)

Once the basics are done, you can think about making your security stronger by enabling additional options. If you want to avoid accessing only certain screens within your apps, turn on "Enhanced Protection" in the Settings tab of FingerSecurity. Then select "Enable" in the pop-up window, allowing FingerSecurity to enter the next screen and click "OK".

Then, to prevent someone from bypassing the fingerprint lock on your apps, turn on "Advanced Security", then tap "Turn on" on the next screen. This will turn FingerSecurity into a device manager, which means the app can't be removed or closed unless you open that settings menu, scan your fingerprints, and turn this off again Option.

Step 4: Lock the apps you want to keep private

Having configured the basic options, all that's left to do is select the apps you'd like to lock with your fingerprint. From the App tab in the main menu of FingerSecurity, tap the activation button in the bottom right corner. Then select any apps you'd like to lock and turn on the first toggle switch on the next screen.

If you choose to enable the enhanced protection feature in Step 3, you will see a second toggle switch in the same menu. Enable this option to lock only certain screens within the application and you will notice a pop-up window.

Step 5: Unlock Apps with your fingerprint

Now that everything is set up, your applications are locked by default. When you open any of the apps you selected in step 4, you should see the lock screen. All you need to do is simply scan your fingerprint to access it.
