One of the many announcements made at Apple's recent Worldwide Developers Conference that didn't garner the same attention as the others concerned the pre-installed weather app for the iPhone.
The look, feel, and features have been provided to Apple by Yahoo for years, part of a deal that sends a lot of traffic back to Yahoo's web portal and inspires a crowd to download its own beautiful weather app. So attractive, in fact, that its revamp was largely handled by Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and has been favorably received by critics and users alike. The credit is well deserved.
But in the fall, Yahoo's weather app will part ways with Appleand the device, an unpleasant development for Mayer and a missed opportunity, as she has aggressively promoted the company's efforts on mobile platforms as a key part of Yahoo's turnaround.
