Apple Inc said on Thursday it has removed “some” apps from App Store , citing concerns about the security of users’ personal data. The company said some apps could put users at risk under certain conditions.
The company said the apps pose a security risk to users by installing digital certificates that could expose their personal information, allowing third parties to track and collect it. The company did not specify the exact number of apps involved in the security issue.
“Apple is deeply committed to protecting our customers’ privacy and security,” an Apple spokesperson said in a statement. “We are working closely with these app developers to quickly get their apps back on the App Store, while ensuring users’ privacy and ensuring their security is not compromised.”.
These applications, which include digital certificates, send user data to servers where it can be analyzed. This opens the door for network service providers to access and view encrypted data traffic, leaving users vulnerable to cyberattacks.
Among the apps that were removed was Been Choice, which has attracted the interest of users, as it had features for blocking ads within apps.
An Applesaid the company plans to release a support page to help users remove the specific apps from their devices.
