Lizard Squad: why we attacked Sony - Microsoft

The Lizard Squad

Η The Lizard Squad, is the infamous hacker gang, who have continued to attack the PlayStation network and Xbox Live regularly since 2014. On August 18, 2014, the gang took League of Legends servers offline in a DDoS attack, which was the first of its kind. Within a week, Lizard Squad, took down the PlayStation Network for the first time. They attacked Xbox Live in early December, at PSN a week later, on both services over Christmas, ruining the holidays for many gamers. And it was all in good fun as they state.

But that wasn't the only reason that caused this group with too much free time on their hands to shut down gaming network connections. WinBeta, in through an encrypted connection contacted the group and asked about their reasons and methods for their attacks.

To take it offline PlayStation Network and Xbox Live started it for the fun of it, but eventually they found a bigger motive and that is to force these companies to upgrade the security on their networks. The team found it easier to download Microsoft Xbox Live since the company had almost nothing in terms of security. It was a bit more difficult and took longer to attack the PlayStation Network, since the company recently upgraded the network's security.

Lizard Squad chose Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for the attacks on the two networks, because they thought it would annoy more gamers. The group did not give any details on if and when they intend to stop these attacks. They want to continue until the companies "learn from the security problems they are causing", as they state in closing the link, after first saying they can take NASDAQ offline if they want to hurt the economy, but they have no such goals.
