He was Microsoft 's thirtieth employee , its first business manager and CEO for more than a decade... Now, after 34 years at the company, Steve Ballmer is leaving Microsoft behind.
In a letter to Satya Nadella, the company's new CEO, Ballmer explains why he is stepping down from Microsoft's board. "I've gotten very busy," he says. "I find that my involvement with the Clippers, my community service, my teaching, and my studies are taking up a lot of my time.".
As is known, Steve Ballmer has started to get involved in basketball business, as he recently acquired the Los Angeles Clippers team for 2 billion dollars.
Despite his departure, the former CEO remains invested in the company's success. Ballmer spent most of his letter encouraging Satya Nadella and offering him advice. "Microsoft will need to be bold and take big bets to succeed in this new environment," he said.
Although he is no longer a member of the company's board of directors, Steve Ballmer still cares about the performance of Microsoft shares, as apart from index funds, he still owns the largest percentage of the company's shares.
