Thirty complaints about child pornography offenses were filed with the Police in 2014, while the entire past year there had been 23, announced the Press Officer of the Cyprus Police, Andreas Angelidis, referring to the latest complaint of a 14-year-old.
Regarding the case of the 14-year-old, Mr. Angelidis said that according to what she reported, she had met someone through the social networking site Facebook and was communicating with him.
As was discovered, this person had created a Facebook account with details that did not correspond to reality.
According to the 14‑year‑old, she had threatened him and sent him ten photos.
Police investigations showed that the Facebook account was managed by a 17‑year‑old, who was arrested while two laptops were seized, within which preliminary examinations appear to contain a number of photos, especially of under‑age girls.
Regarding the interrogation of the 17-year-old, Anggelidis noted that he has appeared in court and a detention warrant has been secured, noting that from the investigations that followed and as the detainee testified, the specific account is also managed by another person, a friend of his from Greece.
He/she said that Interpol Greece will also be informed about the issue, and noted that the two computers will be forwarded immediately for investigations, so that the Police can see, through a detailed examination, the number of photos that exist, since at first glance it appears that there are photos of underage girls on them.
