Anthropic ’s Mythos is raising national security concerns, as the White House reportedly suspects that Chinese groups have gained access to the powerful artificial intelligence system . According to a new report from Semafor , the US government’s decision to impose export restrictions on Mythos is partly due to fears of Chinese infiltration.
The potential access of Chinese teams to Mythos 5 or Fable 5 would pose a serious risk to US national security. The White House has not officially confirmed this report , while a post on X by Trump advisor David Sacks made no mention of China . Instead, Sacks focused on jailbreaking capabilities for Fable and Mythos , something Anthropic has vehemently denied.
If there was indeed a Chinese infiltration of Mythos, it wouldn't be the first embarrassing breach of the model. Anthropic has said that Mythos is too dangerous and powerful for public consumption, but a Discord reportedly had access for two weeks before the company discovered the breach and cut off access.
