A Maui health center has faced an alleged ransomware attack from one of the world's largest hacking groups, whose leaders are based in Russia.

Last month, the center was closed for more than two weeks, but now says its systems are "fully operational."
On June 7, FalconFeeds, an India-based cybersecurity company, posted on its X page:
«Lockbit ransomware has targeted the Maui health center, also known as Malama I Ke Ola Health Center, as its latest victim».
CEO and founder Nandakishore Harikuma shared a screenshot to Hawaii News Now showing the dark web portal Lockbit.
The group had extended the ransom deadline until Wednesday, but so far has not released samples of compromised data.

«Lockbit is always in the media for the wrong reasons, as it was the biggest threat actor in the ransomware space».
The alleged cyberattack shut down operations at the Maui health center for more than two weeks last month. The center serves about 12,000 patients and the disruption caused many problems.
In February, US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the shutdown of the Lockbit ransomware group.
He said it is one of the most prolific ransomware groups in the world that has targeted more than 2,000 victims, received more than $120 million in ransom payments, and made hundreds of millions of dollars in demands.
