Ilya Sutskever announced via the X platform (formerly Twitter) his departure from OpenAI, almost ten years after its founding.
It is clear that under the leadership of Sam Altman as CEO, Greg Brockman as President, and Mira Murati as CTO, OpenAI will move forward to create an [artificial general intelligence] that is both safe and beneficial.

In announcing Ilya Sutskever's departure from OpenAI, Altman described him as "one of the brightest minds of our generation," praising him for his dedication and contributions to the company. Jakub Pachocki, previously OpenAI's Director of Research, focused on the development of GPT-4 and OpenAI Five, succeeded Sutskever as chief scientist.
As Sutskever and Altman praised each other in their farewell messages, they became embroiled in the biggest scandal their company has ever faced in the past year. In November, OpenAI ’s board of directors made the unexpected decision to fire Altman and the company’s president, Greg Brockman, stating that it had “lost confidence in Altman’s ability to lead OpenAI.” Sutskever, a board member, took an active role in the decision, asking Altman and Brockman to separate the meetings where they were told of their dismissal. At the time, reports revealed that Altman and Sutskever had expressed concerns about OpenAI’s extremely rapid pace of development and commercialization of advanced AI technologies
Altman and Brockman, just five days after their dismissal, were reinstated, while the original board was dissolved and replaced by a new one. Shortly before this development, Sutskever stated via X that he “deeply regretted his participation in the board’s actions” and promised to do everything possible “to reunite the company.” He resigned from the board of directors, and although he retained his position as chief scientist, the New York Times reports that he never actually returned to his duties.

Sutskever revealed that he is working on a new project that gives him “great personal satisfaction,” although he has not yet revealed details about it. For its part, OpenAI recently introduced GPT-4, which has the ability to recognize emotions and process, as well as produce content in the form of text, audio, and images.
