Employees are enthusiastically embracing the efficiencies offered by artificial intelligence, while also critically analyzing the concerns raised about cybersecurity.
The demand for high performance from employees has never been greater. In their quest to remain productive, many are ignoring corporate IT and security policies, adopting the use of unapproved applications and devices.

A recent study by 1Password reveals important findings in its research titled “Balancing Act: Security and Productivity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” Key findings include:
- One in five employees (17%) admits that they never use the devices provided by their employer for work purposes.
- More than half of employees (54%) admit that they do not adhere to their company's security policies, citing the need for speed and increased productivity.
Shadow IT usage on the rise: 34% of employees admit to using unapproved apps and tools to increase their productivity. On average, they use five such tools, each of which increases their security risk. Employers are blamed for security weaknesses: About half of employees believe that security would not be such an issue if leaders offered more user-friendly tools and more enforceable policies.
“Since the pandemic, employees have gained greater flexibility in how and where they work, and that flexibility often extends to the apps and devices they use. Productivity has become paramount, leaving significant security concerns for IT and security leaders – “There are many who often feel they lack the necessary infrastructure or financial resources to ensure the safety of their employees,” said Jeff Shiner, CEO of 1Password. “When it comes to security, there should be no compromise. Businesses and security providers must offer solutions that keep employees protected and productive — no matter how they prefer to work. When you protect your people, you protect business .”
The main problem facing IT teams is the difficulty in keeping up with the rapid evolution of technology. An impressive 80% of organizations have managed to maintain or even increase the volume of applications and tools available to their employees. However, 50% of security professionals claim that it is almost impossible to achieve an ideal balance between security and employee productivity. At the same time, 27% of security professionals believe that emerging, unexplored technologies, such as artificial intelligence, are some of the biggest threats to corporate security today. Almost half of them say that their companies have difficulty protecting their employees by integrating these new technologies.

The report concluded with the belief that businesses and security providers have a responsibility to develop solutions that enhance human intelligence while enhancing organizational security, effectively addressing existing threats and capitalizing on available opportunities.
