The Android 15 will bring a number of new features to Android phones and one of them might be related to the screen timeout settings.
The Android expert, Mishaal Rahman, spotted some strings that hint at a new adaptive Screen Timeout feature in the second Android 15 Developer Preview. According to them, the setting “automatically disables the Screen early if the Device“.
At the moment, we don't know how Android will determine when a phone isn't being used, but it probably has nothing to do with just the absence of touch. It may use a detection method similar to the one implemented in the current Screen attention setting, where the front is used Camera of the device to see if someone is looking at the Screen.

One interesting fact is that these strings are found in com.google.*, which, according to Rahman, suggests that the adaptive timeout feature will likely launch on phones Pixel. However, the feature may later be extended to other Devices, as was the case with the Screen attention feature, which debuted with the Pixel 4 and then made available on other smartphones.
The Adaptive Timeout feature offers an extra layer of protection for the user's privacy, as it increases the security of their personal data. This is achieved by automatically turning off the device's screen when not in use, preventing access by unwanted users.

The operating system will intelligently turn off the screen and lock it automatically when you stop using the device. This also helps to battery saving, as the screen will not be on for a long time, unnecessarily draining power.
At the moment, we don't know any more details about the timeout feature, but we may learn more as the Google continues to release Android 15 preview builds.
