Scientists discover water in a black hole light years away

Scientists have discovered a large volume of water in a black hole in space, 12 billion light-years away. That's certainly a very long distance.

Although it is difficult to understand, the amount of water contained in the black hole is equivalent to all the water in the oceans , multiplied by 140 trillion times.

Two teams of astronomers have discovered the largest body of water ever found. According to NASA scientist Matt Bradford , who was involved in the discovery, the water is powering a quasar, which is a type of black hole.

The environment around this quasar is very unique, producing this huge mass of water,” Bradford wrote in a statement.

It is further evidence that water is widespread throughout the universe, even in very early times. Quasars emit large amounts of energy, steadily consuming the surrounding disk of gas and dust..”

According to NASA, astronomers expected to find evaporated water in the depths of the universe, however, it has never been detected at this distance before.

Specifically, the teams studied a quasar called APM 08279+5255, which contains a black hole 20 billion times more massive than the Sun with the same energy as a thousand trillion Suns. From this, the Bradford team was able to gain more information about the water in this massive black hole.

In other major achievements in the space sector, the James Webb Space Telescope found light on an Earth-like planet

In one of its most recent discoveries, Webb followed up on the work of NASA's infrared Spitzer . In 2016, Spitzer discovered seven planets orbiting the same star, known to the scientific community as TRAPPIST-1 . About 40.7 light-years from Earth, the star itself was discovered 24 years ago. But finding water in a black hole sounds more impressive.

And now, researchers have used Webb to examine one of the planets they found. The planet, known as TRAPPIST-1 b, is similar to Earth in composition, with its size being about the same as our planet. The research was groundbreaking – as it was the first time any light had been detected being emitted from another planet outside our solar system.
