Instagram Flipside: Second Profile for Selected Followers

Instagram Flipside

Instagram is preparing to introduce soon the Flipside feature for creating a new profile with selected content - Everything you need to know

Instagram is currently at test stage of a new feature called "Flipside," which allows users to create a second profile which is visible only to selected following. This unique photo grid, tailored for a selected audience, differs from the existing Close Friends feature, offering a unique perspective on your profile for specific recipients.

Instagram is currently in the testing phase of a new feature called "Flipside," with social media consultant Matt Navarra sharing a preview video on Threads. This feature allows users to configure a separate space, called a "flipside," where they can configure content exclusively for a selected group of friends. The video shows the ability to share his publications feed and reels remaining visible only on the flipside, essentially creating an alternative Instagram profile within the same account. If someone adds you to their flipside, a lock icon appears in the top right corner of the post. To see someone's flipside on Instagram, just swipe down on their profile.

The introduction of the Flipside feature on Instagram is reminiscent of the existing Close Friends feature, which allows users to share posts and stories exclusively with a designated list. However, Flipside goes a step further by allowing the creation of a completely separate profile. The coexistence of these two features can be somewhat confusing considering their overlapping capabilities, as users navigate between managing a selected list and creating a completely different profile within the Instagram framework.

People with a large number of followers often choose to have separate private accounts for sharing personal posts. However, the introduction of Flipside and the existence of Close Friends can introduce complexity, adding to the management load in a single box. While Instagram already provides the ability to create different audience lists, the addition of Flipside and Close Friends can potentially create more complications for users to handle. At the moment, this feature is in the testing stage and there is no confirmation if it will be offered to all users in the future.
