As of today, residents of Arizona, Colorado and Georgia can save a digital version their identity in the application. Google first enabled the option in Maryland in June. Η Apple also allows people in certain locations to add a digital copy of their ID to Apple Wallet.

Currently, you can use a digital ID stored in your Google Wallet for expedited processing in TSA PreCheck lines at select airports. Google plans to offer more ways to use the digital version of your ID this year, such as for in-app car rentals. The idea is that the app will have Accessed at only the necessary information, such as the holder's name and fitness to drive.

The digital IDs added to Google Wallet are encrypted, so no one will have access to the personal information stored there unless the user decides to share it. To access the ID, you will need to verify your identity using a fingerprint. In addition, it will be possible to choose which information you want to share when you present his or her digital identity.

To add an ID from Arizona, Colorado, Georgia or Maryland to your Google Wallet, your device must be Android 8 or newer version. First, open the Google Wallet app, tap the Add to Wallet button, select the ID Card option, and select the state that issued the ID. Then you'll need to scan the ID and take a quick video selfie to verify, you are the person to whom it belongs. Google will then verify your ID.

If you lose or have your phone stolen, you can delete your digital ID via the settings your Google account. You also have the option to ask your state DMV to remove the ID from Google Wallet.
