Huawei Huawei Technologies Co is building a collection of secret semiconductor manufacturing facilities across China to allow the company to bypass U.S. sanctions, Bloomberg News.
The Chinese tech giant began chip production last year and receives about $30 billion in government funding, the Semiconductor Industry Association said, adding that Huawei has acquired at least two factories and is building three more.
The US Department of Commerce added Huawei to its export control list in 2019 for security reasons. The company denies that it poses a security risk.
If Huawei builds facilities with the names of other companies, as the Semiconductor Industry Association (Semiconductor Industry Association) says, it may be able to bypass US government restrictions to indirectly purchase American chip manufacturing equipment, according to Bloomberg reports.
Huawei has been placed on blacklist in the United States, restricting most suppliers from shipping goods to the company unless they are granted licenses. Officials have continued to tighten controls to cut off the company's ability to buy or design semiconductor chips, which power most of its products.
