Yesterday, a famous industry tipster shocked the market when he stated that OPPO and OnePlus would be leaving Europe. He later corrected his statement to say that only certain countries would be affected by this change. However, it turns out that even that information was false - and both companies have now issued an official joint statement denying any such plans to leave the European Union.
Following a rumor that surfaced yesterday, OPPO and OnePlus have strongly denied rumors of their withdrawal from the European market.
So what's the real story here? It seems Max Jambor was given inaccurate or incomplete information. As it turns out, both OnePlus and OPPO had some difficulties in Europe regarding Nokia– however, exiting the European market never seemed like an option. We're thankful for that, as consumers are now benefiting from more competition in the market!
Last year, Nokia aggressively sued OPPO and OnePlus for 5G patent infringement. We had all hoped that the matter would be resolved in time - however, we were not so lucky. As a result of this process, both companies were ordered to stop selling their devices in Germany and more difficulties have followed since then.
However, the leaker claimed that both companies are preparing to leave Germany, England, France and the Netherlands. However, both companies have categorically denied leaving Europe - OnePlus even mentioned Britain specifically.
OnePlus and the other company issued a joint statement, as well as a separate statement from OnePlus' Global PR Manager.
This is the joint statement from the two companies, in detail: “OPPO and OnePlus are committed to all existing European markets. We had a great start to 2023 with the successful launch of several products in Europe and have a series of upcoming products for the rest of the year. As always, OPPO and OnePlus will continue to provide more innovative products and best-in-class service for users moving forward.”
Some media sources focused a bit on the words “for the rest of the year,” as if 2024 marked an abrupt departure for both companies. This was probably just careless wording and probably not significant.
Additionally, OnePlus Global PR Manager James Paterson said: "OnePlus will not leave Europe and the UK and maintains stable operations in local markets. OnePlus will continue to invest in Europe and provide more innovative products and solutions for its users."
As a result, both companies seem to be sticking to their usual course. Nokia has been a major obstacle for both of these companies, but we hope they will find a solution soon.
