Although the company has not released details about the incident, it implies that customers' payment details have not been affected, as they are not stored on its systems or processed by them.

According to customers waiting for parcel delivery, Yodel's tracking and customer services were disrupted over the weekend, and some of them claimed they had no information about their packages for at least four days.

According to cybersecurity researcher Kevin Beaumont, there are rumors that Yodel was hit by a ransomware. His theory makes sense given that these threat actors typically avoid encrypting victim computers on weekdays, when the process is more likely to be discovered.

It appears that the company initially notified eBay sellers of the cyberattack via private messages, saying it was " working to discover the nature and full impact of the cyber incident ."

The company said it was working to bring its systems back online with support from an authorized external party.

Yodel later issued a public statement on its website, confirming that the service outage was due to a cyber incident and informing users that “packages may arrive later than expected.”

In a longer post about the incident, Yodel advises its customers to avoid responding to unsolicited communications that request personal information or refer to websites that require such details.

"Avoid responding, clicking on links, or downloading attachments from suspicious email. If you are asked for personal information by someone purporting to be a Yodel employee, please notify us immediately," Yodel said in its statement.
