BYD Auto was founded in 2003 as a subsidiary of BYD Co LTD. and has since become one of the largest plug-in vehicle manufacturers in the world. Last summer, the automaker launched the Tang SUV in Norway with plans to expand into Europe.

With today's announcement, BYD appears to be extending its footprint in the USA with a fully electric school bus. The company continuously improves the performance of its buses.

From the description of the new school bus by BYD, it appears that the vehicle has the technology and range required to transport students safely and efficiently, while also reducing carbon emissions.

In a press release issued this morning, BYD presented the fully electric D‑type school bus, stating that it is available in many lengths and can carry up to 84 passengers. According to the company, this bus will be able to travel 250 kilometres on a single charge.

To help passengers, who are mainly children, stay safe, BYD has implemented many safety technologies in the D-type school bus. This includes various functions concerning the driver, such as electronic stability control, collision avoidance system, and a 360-degree monitoring system for detecting pedestrians and cyclists around the bus. If needed, the BYD school bus can be equipped with seat belts and car seats.
