While IKEA has entered the tech world with a smart home device and a furniture app, now it's time for PC gaming. The Swedish company has announced a new partnership with ASUS' Republic of Gamers (ROG) division to create "affordable gaming accessories and furniture" across a range of around 30 products.
However, there is no official announcement or information on what the products will be, but chairs and desks are a very likely scenario.
The gaming range will be developed by IKEA's Product Development Center in Shanghai. The company said its designers held workshops with ROG designers, along with professional gamers and " gaming," to capture the functionality needed for home gaming furniture, according to Engadget.
“In collaboration with ROG, IKEA aims to combine its home furnishing expertise with ROG’s expertise in creating exceptional experiences gaming the company wrote. IKEA also said it would design and manufacture “affordable gaming furniture and accessories,” though it didn’t say exactly what products it would create with ROG. It seems likely that gaming desks and chairs will be part of the new partnership.
IKEA and ROG aren't the first companies to do this, as Logitech recently teamed up with Herman Miller on a unique gaming chair. However, IKEA may be taking a different approach, aesthetically speaking. The company said it sees gaming as an accessible experience for everyone, so its furniture designs could fit in better with your decor than other gaming chairs and furniture.
But we'll find out soon enough, as the series will be released in China in February 2021 and will gradually expand to the rest of the world.
