The Directorate of Cybercrime of the Hellenic Police, formed a case file of regular procedure, against an illegal gambling and betting site via Internet.
In the context of targeted actions to combat gambling, illegal betting and tax evasion via the Internet, the Directorate of Cybercrime, formed a case file of regular proceedings, against an illegal site that offered gambling and betting via the Internet, in our country.
More specifically, after proper data evaluation and conducting a thorough digital - online research, it was discovered that this site was operating without the legally required license, while evading the prescribed taxes to the Greek State. At the same time, it was identified that the management and the servers of the offending website are located in a foreign country.
In fact, correspondence and information was sent to the independent administrative authority, the Gaming Supervision and Control Commission (Gambling Supervision and Control Committee), which is responsible for the supervision and control of gambling and the maintenance of the "black list" of websites that offer gambling services in Greece without a legal license.
The case file of regular procedure, formed for the case, was submitted to the Athens Prosecutor's Office, in order to submit immediately relevant requests for judicial assistance, for the conduct of any further investigative acts, for the perpetrators who are abroad.
In addition, the competent authorities have been informed in order to carry out audits within their competence to identify the level of tax evasion and any money laundering.
