For years, Apple has been playing a game of cat and mouse with jailbreakers. Apple releases a new version of its operating system, hackers start looking for security vulnerabilities to exploit, a new jailbreak is created using those exploits, and Apple fixes the vulnerabilities in a new iOS version. This cycle has been going on for many years.
Apple yesterday released iOS 6.1.3, which fixes security vulnerabilities that Evad3rs exploited to enable jailbreaking. Of the six vulnerabilities that Apple closed in total, it publicly thanked the hacker group for four of them.
The iOS 6 jailbreak has been available for almost 2 months now, and more than 18 million devices have been jailbroken, according to Forbes, making it the most popular jailbreak in the world.
Unfortunately, it no longer works in 6.1.3, and we probably won't see another jailbreak for quite some time. The good news is that the team has kept some exploits that they plan to use in iOS 7, so yes, we will see a jailbreak again then.
