"If I didn't have the trust, support of the prime minister and the love of the people, they would have demobilized me," says the major general of the Hellenic Police, Manolis Sfakianakis.
"I am a 'soldier', but not a soldier. I am a major general and, as they did with other colleagues, they should have called me and told me about my transfer. If they did, I would have immediately accepted my transfer to the Administrative Support and Human Resources Branch. Now why did they call me? They told me: 'You will become assistant chief of staff and I accepted without complaint," the former head of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate tells Eleftheros Tipo of Kyriaki.
Mr. Sfakianakis changed three transfers last week. Initially, he was informed that he was being transferred to the Administrative Support Branch.
Amidst reactions and at least 940,000 messages of support in a 24-hour period on social media, as well as critical statements about him by the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Nikos Toskas, it became known that he would remain in the Cybercrime Investigation.
He eventually took over as assistant to the chief of staff, Lieutenant General Zacharoula Tsirigoti, and supervisor of the Cybercrime Investigation.
Mr. Sfakianakis' replacement at the Cybercrime Investigation Directorate is expected to be the deputy commander of the Service, Vasilis Papakostas.
