European police force against Jihadists on Twitter

TwitterA special pan-European police force has been set up, with the aim of monitoring and blocking jihadist on Twitter and social media.

An American study estimates that there are 46,000 accounts on Twitter! According to a relevant document from the Brooking Institution in Washington, the number of these accounts could reach 90,000!

Europol 's new police branch , which will officially begin its activities on ,1 July will be responsible for monitoring these accounts and will cooperate with other anonymous companies, with the main goal of closing the accounts within 2 hours of their creation.

According to statements by Europoldirector Rob Wainwrightto the BBC, this attempt will be a major undertaking but that the new team will be effective in combating this phenomenon:

“Our goal is to combine what we see on the Internet with our intelligence and to work with European police authorities so that we can more specifically identify who the key user accounts are and block them,” he adds.

Rita Katz , director of UNESCO 's Jihadist Monitoring Group , in an April article called for more security measures regarding these accounts, even speaking of the insufficient provision of security by blocking alone :

"It's time to stop walking blindly and recognize ISIS fighters and their Twitter, who are considered equally dangerous, not because they enjoy tweeting, but because Twitter is now one of the most important tools for their development and existence."
