Four people were arrested in connection with a case of importing, possessing and distributing counterfeit products of branded foreign companies via the Internet, which was investigated by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate.
According to the Police, the perpetrators created various profiles on auction websites and on special-type online classifieds and then presented them as genuine, and offered for sale counterfeit products, such as clothing items, footwear, accessories, branded foreign companies, at particularly low and attractive prices, thus deceiving prospective buyers.
Police teams from the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate carried out surprise searches, in the presence of judicial officers, at the homes of the arrested persons in Athens and Volos, where hundreds of high-cost counterfeit products. The arrested persons are accused of forgery, fraud and violations of legislation regulating the market for products and the provision of services, trademark protection, as well as unfair competition.
