Google 's Pwnium hacking competition is held every year for a day at a security conference. But the company is considering not only making the competition a year-round event but also providing unlimited funding. But the good news doesn't stop there.
The competition was held annually at the CanSecWest in Vancouver, Canada, and allowed hackers to showcase their work on Chromium and receive a cash prize.
In 2014, the prize money was $1,000,000. However, participants had to register and be present at the conference in order to take part in the competition. This effectively excluded hundreds if not thousands of researchers, as not all of them had the financial means or the time to be in Canada.
According to Google's new decision, this is no longer the case, and security researchers from all over the world will be able to claim the prize, without being limited by a registration process or a long journey.
Vulnerabilities can be reported through the company's Chrome Vulnerability Program (VRP).
"For those wondering how much Pwnium can reward, don't worry about numbers: as of today it will be infinite millions of dollars," said Tim Willis of the Chrome security team.
So with the company's changes, hackers will have the ability to report their findings throughout the year.
According to news from the Chromium security team, the company is opening its doors to researchers from all over the world. A very smart move by Google, which proves how much it invests in security, while rewarding security researchers when in Greece they are called Crackers.
