The Facebook Some users' feeds may have been infected by a message sent by a friend or known as an update to a video of the last words of famous Filipino actor Mark Gil.

Gil, whose real name is Raphael Joseph De Mesa Eigenmann, passed away on September 1, and cybercriminals immediately devised a scam that exploited the unfortunate event to help them push malware.

The message supposedly offers the actor's last words, which were reportedly captured on video. The same sense of urgency for the user to click on the link has spread through messages designed to support the scam, also known as click-baiting.

According to Jovi Umawing from Malwarebytes, clicking on the alleged Video to monitor it, leads to potentially unwanted applications (PUA/AIX).

Umawing says the samples analyzed have been identified by their systems as PUP.Optional.InstallBrain.A. Users are advised to check news, increasingly, when it involves popular people.
