Speaking to Infosecurity, Gerome Billois, a partner at Wavestone, attributed the increase in cybersecurity personnel to efforts that have been underway for years to strengthen cyber defenses.

"It is a very positive sign that large businesses have recognized the need for a strong cyber workforce. More and more companies have launched initiatives to ensure talent retention," he said.

Increasing emphasis on cybersecurity

After years of efforts and implementation of significant cybersecurity programs to strengthen defense, a stabilization phase.

According to Billois, in previous years, leadership teams have mobilized to implement basic cybersecurity (e.g. MFA, etc.).

The main motivation was to become more resilient to ransomware attacks, and it worked. The average maturity level of these groups against ransomware is at 56.9%, up from 49.8% in 2023. We are seeing fewer IT systems of large organizations being compromised by ransomware groups,” Billois said.

Additionally, the study showed that large companies are now placing more emphasis on cloud and data security.

Why is cybersecurity emphasized?

The increasing frequency and complexity of cyberattacks is one of the main factors driving the growth of cybersecurity staff. Large organizations are recognizing the need for more security experts to protect their data and systems.

Additionally, the increased reliance on technology and digital systems in business processes has led to a greater need for cybersecurity professionals. Organizations are investing more in technology solutions and need experts to manage and protect these systems.
