Among these risks, Fortinet notes that ransomware continues to have a significant impact, increasing its share from 23% of attacks in the construction industry in 2020 to 36% in 2023. According to one cybersecurity firm, over 80% of manufacturers experienced at least one breach in the past year, while 15% experienced six or more breaches.

“It is important to consider the balance between complying with regulations regarding business technology and strengthening defenses,” said John Maddison, chief marketing officer and executive vice president at Fortinet.

Fortinet emphasizes the importance of understanding the operational resilience of critical infrastructure and prioritizing vulnerability management to protect against cyberattacks. It highlights the need for a continuous integrated approach to educate and improve architecture, response plans, and operational resilience against emerging threats.

To strengthen cybersecurity, manufacturers have invested in security auditing of Operating Systems Technology (OT). 48% reported performing audits in the past six months, up from 44% in 2020. Strict protection have attracted attention, with 23% of manufacturers conducting monthly OT security audits, while 49% conduct quarterly audits.

To address these concerns, Fortinet offers the Fortinet OT Security Platform, a complete suite of security products and services designed specifically to protect industrial networks. This platform provides extensive visibility, based on the principle of the Zero-Trust, enhancing the operation of the Security Operations Center (SOC). In addition, the company uses artificial intelligence (AI) to protect the network.
