Despite reports suggesting demand for electric vehicles is in decline, Volvo's new electric cars, including the EX30 and EX90 , have similar waiting times to Ferrari vehicles . The head of Volvo's online business in Germany, Alex Zurhausen , says customers are waiting because they have " the right products at the right time ."

Two years after the EX90 was unveiled, Volvo's flagship electric SUV is still in high demand.
Hailed as “the safest vehicle” Volvo has ever built, customers continue to await the launch of the electric seven-seater. Volvo Cars CEO Jim Rowanannounced that production of the EX90 had been delayed since May due to “complexity of the software code.”
When asked how the brand has prevented customers from switching to other brands, Zurhausen told Automotive News Europe that Volvo has “the right products at the right time.”
With more than 20 years of experience at Volvo, Zurhausen said these are some of the highest wait times he has seen.
“When I started working at Volvo, it was a given that if you ordered a car, in three months, you would have it in your possession,” said the head of Volvo’s online division in Europe.

The EX90 isn't the only new Volvo electric car to cause Ferrari-like waiting times. In Germany, the waiting time for Volvo's more affordable EX30 is up to four months.

Volvo saw its highest ever electric vehicle sales last month, largely driven by the new launch of the EX30. Since its launch in December, Volvo has sold 5,863 EX30 models in the first two months of 2024.
Zurhause said Volvo's business has never been better. Volvo set new global sales records (+113,000 UK) for its electric cars and revenue last year. CEO Jim Rowan predicts "huge growth" in 2024 with the introduction of new electric vehicles.
The EX30 starts at $34,950 in the United States and €36,590 in Europe.
Regarding the reported slower growth rate of electric vehicles, Rowan said: “We are not seeing any order cancellations or delays in receiving orders.”

The public acceptance of electric cars has evolved significantly in recent years. Initially, electric cars faced a lot of resistance due to their limited range, high cost and lack of charging infrastructure. However, over time, the technology has improved significantly. The range of electric cars has increased, their cost has decreased and charging infrastructure has increased. This has led to greater public acceptance. In addition, increased awareness of the environmental impact of fuels has led many people to choose electric cars as a more sustainable option.
