Baek Won-Soon was accused of passing “highly confidential” information to unnamed foreign intelligence agencies.
According to the news agency, Won-Soon was recently arrested in Vladivostok and transferred to Moscow at the end of last month. He is currently being held at the Lefortovo detention center. His detention has been extended for another three months, until June 15, 2024.
American journalist Evan Gershkovich is also in the detention center, awaiting trial on suspicion of espionage, although he has denied the charges.
These developments come amid rising geopolitical relations between Russia and North Korea, even as state-run hacking associated with the latter have targeted the Kremlin to continue strategic intelligence-gathering missions.
