BYD is competing with natural gas-powered cars as it introduces new electric vehicles at more affordable prices.

After surpassing Tesla to take the top spot as the leading electric vehicle manufacturer by sales worldwide in the fourth quarter, BYD plans to maintain its momentum through 2024.
BYD's new electric vehicle plans were leaked earlier this month, showcasing several new electric models in key categories.
Although BYD is primarily known for its low-cost electric vehicles, such as the Dolphin, Atto 3 and Seal, the automaker has recently expanded into new markets. Last January, BYD introduced the luxury Yangwang brand with starting prices of around $140,000 (RMB 1,000,000).
The luxury brand unveiled its first vehicle, the U8 off-roader, in September. BYD unveiled the first ultra-premium sedan in the series, the YangWang U7, last month.
According to information leaked by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the U7 carries an advanced all-wheel drive system with a power of about 1,300 horsepower and a range of about 800 kilometers according to the CLTC 500 mi driving cycle.

The company will unveil its first electric supercar, the Yangwang U9, on February 25. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than 2 seconds.

BYD today introduced new versions of two of its sedans, aiming to expand market share further from gasoline-powered vehicles.
The automaker has launched the Qin Plus Honor Edition with three major upgrades. The DM-i (PHEV) version starts at 79,800 yuan (about 10,000 euros) and has up to 120 km of pure electric range according to the NEDC cycle.
BYD's Qin Plus EV version has five models with prices ranging from RMB 109,800 to RMB 139,800 ($15,200 to RMB 139,800 ($19,400).
The all-electric version features an electric motor with up to 134 hp (100 kW) and 132 lb-ft (180 Nm) of peak torque. It will be available with either a 48 kWh or 57.6 kWh battery pack, offering a range of up to 261 miles (420 km) and 316 miles (510 km) CLTC, respectively.

Last year, BYD launched the Qin Plus Champion Edition at the same price as natural gas-powered vehicles, making it immediately competitive in the fuel-powered vehicle sector.
