Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has been spotted in a new Steam update, confirming rumors of a February release.
Elden Ring is a pretty tough game. Sure, most FromSoftware fans will probably tell you that it's the easiest to beat, thanks to Mimic Tear and the ability to level up as much as you want, but it still has Malenia, the Sword of Mikella, and a whole host of bosses that will strip your health bar and beat you to death with it. That's exactly what fans of Elden Ring and the Souls series love, though, and it wouldn't be a true FromSoftware experience if you didn't face an absolute wall of challenge.

This is also exactly why Elden Ring fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will be even more unforgiving than the base game . Reddit user RedditKnight is one such fan, who shared his thoughts on the potential difficulty of Shadow of the Erdtree with the Elden Ring community on Reddit earlier this week. As expected, he was met with hundreds of other masochists hoping the DLC will destroy them.
There are already some who are dreaming up even more unlikely battles that could be included in the DLC, including dual opponents involving Malenia and Mikaela. Indeed, Mikaela is mentioned several times, with some suggesting/hoping that Mikaela could be the tough bosses we've been dreading/dying to face. Either that, or it'll be an NPC with a creepy British laugh that we have to talk to, you never know with FromSoftware.

If we're being honest, it's more than likely that FromSoftware will rise to the challenge and Shadow of the Erdtree will make us want to burst out. Typically, the most difficult, memorable boss battles in the Soulsborne series have come in DLC, with the likes of Artorias, Fume Knight, Slave Knight Gael, Orphan of Kos, Ludwig, Manus, and many, many more. If anything, it would be surprising if the DLC wasn't hard as hell, with a secret boss somewhere that will make us wish we were never born.
As for when we can expect the torture, unfortunately we still don't have a release date for Shadow of the Erdtree. There are rumors that we could get one quite soon, as a recent Steam update revealed that it's currently in the "quality review" stage, hinting that it'll be here sooner rather than later.
