Keenan & Associates is informing the public about a data breach affecting 1.5 million customers. According to the company, hackers gained access to customers' personal information during a recent cyberattack.
Keenan is a California-based insurance and consulting firm. Since 2017, it has been part of AssuredPartners NL.
The company filed a notice with the Maine Attorney General's Office, stating that 1,509,616 people were affected by a breach that occurred in the summer of 2023.

“On Sunday, August 27, 2023, we discovered some outages on some Keenan network,” the notice states.
“We immediately launched an investigation and hired leading cybersecurity experts to help.“.
Keenan & Associates said the investigation showed unauthorized access to certain internal systems between approximately August 21 and 27, 2023.
The data the attackers obtained from Keenan's systems includes: full name, date of birth, social security number (SSN), passport number, driver's license number, information , and general health information.
How much of this information has been exposed is related to the individual (depending on their relationship with the company).

Employees are likely to be affected, in addition to customers.
Theft of the above data can lead to identity theft, financial fraud, phishing attacks , and more. Therefore, customers should be very careful with any emails, messages, or calls they may receive.
