Aditya -L1, a solar observatory operated by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), is traveling into space to study the Sun.This is the country's first mission to the Sun.
India's spacecraft will observe the Sun with its seven specially designed scientific payloads . The spacecraft will be placed at a point in the Earth-Sun system, known as Lagrange 1, where the gravitational forces of the Sun and Earth are in balance and thus the spacecraft can remain stable. This point is located 1.5 million kilometers away from Earth.
The Aditya-L1 spacecraft will not approach the Sun any closer, but will study it from this distance during its mission, which is estimated to last about 5 years. The placement at the Lagrange 1 point will allow the spacecraft to observe the Sun, without being affected by eclipses and other related phenomena.

Aditya-L1 will explore the solar corona, the atmosphere , its surface and the photosphere. With the data it collects, India hopes to solve long-standing solar mysteries, such as how the corona is much hotter than the photosphere despite being about 1,609 km away from the sun's main heat source.
The spacecraft's proximity to Earth will also allow it to study our planet's magnetic field and how it reacts to charged particles flowing toward Earth from the sun in solar winds and so-called coronal mass ejections. The Indian mission will also study the environment around the Lagrange 1 point.

The spacecraft was launched into space on September 2 and is expected to reach Lagrange Point 1 in 110 days (from launch).
It is worth noting that the Indian spacecraft has already taken some stunning images of the Earth and the Moon from space, as well as a selfie.
