Microsoft's WorkLabs study seeks to measure the expectations of workers and employees during this time of economic uncertainty, rapid technological change, and emerging hopes for hybrid work. To gain insights, they surveyed 2,700 workers as well as 1,800 business decision-makers in the US, UK , and Japan.
The survey found that 89% of respondents said that access to AI tools made them feel more fulfilled, as they were able to focus on tasks that mattered most. Despite the profound potential of AI, 30% of workers reported not having access to such tools. Of those who do have such access, 54% said that AI has helped them with problem-solving tasks, and 89% hope to use it more in their daily activities. It’s clear that AI is becoming increasingly essential to boosting employee productivity and satisfaction!
The results of this study align with Microsoft’s vision for AI and tools like ChatGPT. It recently made a huge investment in OpenAI, the organization that created ChatGPT, to develop OpenAI in both consumer and enterprise products. In addition, they will introduce new digital experiences based on the integrated OpenAI technology!

The findings come as the popularity of ChatGPT has alarmed educators, who are now scrutinizing whether students are using the tool in their assignments. Widespread misuse could easily derail more reliable methods of assessing student understanding. These concerns led the New York City Department of Education to ban ChatGPT from use by both staff and students altogether ,citing concerns about the accuracy of its results and its perceived impact on learning.
Microsoft recently found that the vast majority of employees (77%) want access to low-code or no-code tools for their organization, as these resources could automate tedious tasks, reduce costs, and improve data management. In addition, such solutions can lead to improved analytics capabilities and further innovation opportunities.

The survey revealed that two-thirds of respondents work from home or in the office part-time. Furthermore, there appeared to be a disconnect between managers who are driving digital transformation projects and employees who are using technology – 61% of employees felt included in these transformations, yet 70% believed that company policies restricted them from exploring or using digital solutions on their own.
