Google Photos is testing a new image search button

Google Photos is one of the company's best consumer products, and it shows. The platform regularly gets new features and offers countless ways to enhance your photos. The biggest game-changer in Photos is probably the search feature it launched with, allowing you to display images with specific objects, places, or people in them, just like you would with a text search. Google has long since expanded this feature with the option to search for similar results on the web with a Google Lens shortcut in the image viewer, but it looks like the company may be changing the way this image search tool works in Photos.

Some Google Photos users may have noticed that the Google Lens button is gone. The button has been replaced by a new, more general search shortcut. If you use this feature on an image with human faces, it will identify the people in the photo and allow you to do a reverse image search for those faces.

The new button is a handy way to go down memory lane with related photos, but it's nothing new. In fact, it's similar to the experience you get when you swipe up or tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner.

In this menu, you can search for more images with the same people or faces in them. It's arguably easier to just tap the person you want to search for in the image itself rather than in their own field.

Now you can use Google Lens without having to search for images first. If you need to, you can access the experience quickly and easily. You can also tap on other objects in the image to see if Google Lens has more information or content about them. However, this makes accessing Lens a two-stepthat you'll need to get used to.

It appears that the new search experience is just a limited test, currently only available to a handful of users. Google is hoping that the test will be deemed a success and will roll it out more widely, as many people are saying that it is more useful than just having the ability to use Google Lens.
