YouTube is adding a new indicator to show when a channel is live streaming on the platform, its head of product Neal Mohan announced on Twitter. Essentially, a ring with the word “Live” will appear around a channel’s profile picture when they’re live streaming, which you can tap to jump straight to the live broadcast. The feature will make it easier to find current live content as you browse YouTube.

If the feature sounds familiar, it might be because it's already used on a few other services. TikTok uses a similar pulsating effect on a channel's profile picture if it's live streaming. Instagram also displays a colorful ring around the profile pictures of live streaming accounts when they appear at the top of your feed.

Like Instagram Stories, which was a feature that first launched on Snapchat before being quickly cloned by every other platform on the market, it seems like the live ring UI was too perfect not to be used by YouTube. But YouTube takes its biggest inspiration from TikTok, specifically “Shorts,” a feature that lets you browse short-form video content.
