Many of the Galaxy S22's features have been leaked, but new information is constantly trickling in. For example, it turns out that Samsung has created a "new material" that it's using in the product — made from plastic in discarded fishing nets.

Samsung says it will soon “incorporate ocean-bound recycled plastics” across its entire product line, and the first example will be the Galaxy devices unveiled at its Unpacked this Wednesday, February 9. It’s not yet clear to what extent the material will be used or in what parts of the products. Samsung is not clear on how it fits into the construction of any device.
Citing a report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations that says 640,000 tons of fishing nets are discarded into the oceans each year, Samsung says these “ghost nets” pose a threat to marine life and coral reefs. “These discarded fishing nets are disrupting the delicate balance of our environment at an alarming rate,” the company wrote in a post. “Collecting and reusing these nets are vital first steps in keeping our oceans clean and preserving the planet and our collective future.”.

It's a small first step, but one that Samsung will undoubtedly look to further emphasize on Wednesday when it unveils its new Galaxy devices. The event starts at 10 a.m. ET.
