Popular service OnlyFans appears to be exiting the pornography sector, as it will ban creators from posting sexual content, specifically material that shows sexual acts, starting in October. However, according to an announcement from the company, nude photos and videos can be posted on the site, provided they do not violate OnlyFans' policy.

The service's popularity skyrocketed during the pandemic, as many musicians, influencers, and even so-called "sex workers" used the platform to share content (photos and videos) with fans and make money. OnlyFans has attracted more than 130 million users.
This popularity has brought a greater need for content control, as the OnlyFans service is positioned more as a forum for musicians, fitness trainers and chefs than as a site for sexual content.
The changes to the content ban are necessary due to growing pressure from banking partners and payment providers, the company said. OnlyFans is trying to raise more than $1 billion in funding from outside investors.

The company has been praised for giving sex workers a safer place to do their work, but the work is still stigmatized.

Naturally, the news disappointed several “sex workers” who relied on OnlyFans to make money. Silfy (pseudonym), a 30-year-old woman from Dallas, started posting sexual content on OnlyFans a few years ago and relies on the site to pay her bills.

Over the past year, he's noticed the company turning its attention more to other types of creators online. Earlier this year, OnlyFans introduced a new app that features many of its top creators, but excludes those who engage in nudity.
“If you look at all the promos, they don’t promote us at all,” Silfy said. “I noticed that they hardly promoted people who are involved in sex.”
