During daily monitoring of dark web activity, Cyble has identified several sites where cybercriminals have put up for sale datathey claim was stolen and leaked from Chinese. Specifically, they are offering records of Chinese citizens that may have been stolen from numerous popular Chinese services, such as the “Weibo” platform and the “QQ” messaging app, as well as from Gongan County.
Gongan County is located in the southern Hubei Province of the People's Republic of China, bordering Hunan to the south. It is under the administration of Jingzhou City. A hacker has provided some sample data that allegedly represents 999 household registrations of Chinese citizens from Gongan County, as evidence of the breach. Data belonging to 7.3 million Chinese citizens is currently available for sale on the dark web. The records of Chinese citizens include IDs, names, gender, date of birth, phone numbers, home addresses, and zip codes.
Cyble researchers also noticed that hackers are selling data related to users of the “Weibo” platform . Specifically, they report the following in their relevant post: “The cybercriminal is selling 41.8 million files on a Russian-speaking hacking forum on the dark web. During the analysis of the data samples, it was observed that the weibo_id and the corresponding mobile number were listed in an Excel sheet.”
According to Security Affairs, Cyble researchers also discovered a hacker who is providing files belonging to users of the popular instant messaging software service “QQ” and the web portal owned by Tencent on the dark web. Specifically, the hacker is selling information related to 192 million Chinese citizens on the dark web. The researchers discovered the presence of the qq number and the corresponding mobile number in an Excel sheet while analyzing the data samples
The total number of files related to Chinese citizens for sale on the dark web exceeds 200 million.
