Microsoft has released a preview of Office for users participating in the Insider program.
Microsoft Office version 1901 (build 11231.20080) allows Office 365 subscribers to try out the January 2019 feature update in advance, as the software giant is expected to release several improvements this month.
First of all, Microsoft is expanding support for @mention features in PowerPoint and Word. This particular feature was released last year and allows you to add comments to a document that other users, like your colleagues, can see.
@mention support is especially useful for collaboration and authoring, and starting with this update, it's available in both Word and PowerPoint. Additionally, Microsoft Excel is also getting this update, along with support for comments.
Microsoft is also implementing a new search option to help users search for specific content in their documents in Word, Excel , and PowerPoint.
“Looking for a file you recently worked on? Just type a few keywords in the search box in Backstage (File > Home page) to find the file you’re looking for,” the company explains.
Additionally, Office version 1901 comes with accessibility improvements. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint now come with a new feature in Review > Check Accessibility that scans your documents and provides an in-depth look at your content to help you create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Outlook gets two different updates in this update. First, the app now supports GIFs, so you can include animations in your emails. Then, you can manage email encryption by setting security options from Options > Encrypt.
Please note that these improvements are rolling out to Office 365 subscribers and are in preview, with public rollout expected to begin in the coming weeks for all customers.
