Bad news for Microsoft as according to the latest statistics Windows Phones continue to lose ground worldwide. Unfortunately, those of you who were hoping for a growth of Microsoft's smartphone platform, the figures for the last three quarters of 2016 will disappoint you. But let's take a closer look at the data that was recently published.
First, let's look at the progress of Windows Phone OS, which is proving to be more profitable and successful in the European market than in the American one. The measurements of the last two years (2015-2016) are as follows: Windows Phone OS in Germany had a 4.5% drop compared to last year, ending at 2.4%, while in the United Kingdom it ended at 2.9%, with a 5.3% drop. A similar trend is observed in France, with a drop of 4.8%, and in Italy, with 4.3%. Spain is no exception, with Windows Phone at 0.3%. In general, Windows Phone in 2016 lost 5% ground compared to 2015.
In the United States, Windows Phone fell 1.4% to 1.2%. A similar collapse was observed in China with a drop of 2.3% to 0.1% and in Australia with a drop of 6.5% to 3%.
Such a large discrepancy in sales last year will make us wonder why Microsoft has fallen so far behind. The reason is the lack of new devices, the decrease in developer interest and the lack of consumer interest in Windows smartphones.
