WhatsApp announced today that it has decided to discontinue annual subscriptions, making the service completely free for everyone.
The app's subscription model was somewhat unclear as some users used the service for free, while others had to pay a small subscription fee to continue using it.
One could say that the subscription ($1 per year) was quite cheap especially if one uses WhatsApp on a regular basis.
WhatsApp nevertheless announced:
“Many WhatsApp users don’t have a debit or credit card number and are worried about losing access to their friends and family.”
So the company, now owned by Facebook, announced the termination of the subscription service, something we will see in the coming weeks.
