The hacker group, Cyber Justice Team, leaked 10 GB of compressed data (decompressed, it is over 43 GB of data) from various Syrian government and private companies.

The group claimed to have hacked a Linux server belonging to the Syrian Regulatory Commission for Information Services, the Syrian National Organization for Network Services. According to security experts from Risk Based Security who analyzed the files, most of them come from old data breaches.

This data contains 38,768 folders containing 274,477 files from 55 different domains belonging to government agencies and private companies. The vast majority of the files were default Plesk, Joomla!, and Cportal (PhpNuke-CMS) setups. The attackers likely exploited some known vulnerabilities in the outdated software.

Risk Based Security’s analysis showed that the data appears to come from nans.gov.sy, the National Organization for Network Services, and contains data from 55 Syrian domains, 25 of which are .gov.sy, 2 .org.sy, 1 com.sy and the rest with the generic .sy. Most of the domains affected appear to be inactive or old and no longer in use. Very few of those compromised appear to be of any relevance to the Syrian people, according to RBS.

The hacker group, Cyber Justice Team, is fighting both the Syrian government and IS, both oppressors of the Syrian people!
