Microsoft introduced a new, modern-style calendar in Windows 10 to create more consistency across the desktop (which was also redesigned with a darker theme and other visual improvements), but the legacy version was still available.
Of course, this is very practical for those who were used to the old calendar, especially since it appears much faster than its modern version , but it seems that Microsoft is making a change in Windows 10 Redstone that will allow you to use only the new design.
As WinAero pointed out, the latest preview build of Windows 10 Redstone, namely version 14291, blocks the registry with which you can enable the original calendar design, so even if you try this trick, it has absolutely no effect on your desktop.
Microsoft's decision is not surprising, given the fact that the company is working to give everything in Windows 10 a modern look and feel, so it was probably just a matter of time before this happened.
The desktop Control Panel is also leaving
In addition to the legacy calendar, the traditional Control Panel is also set to become darker, and the Redstone update is very likely the time when Microsoft will remove it completely.
The Control Panel will be replaced by Settings, a new app that offers support for touch devices, which is available for Windows 10 Mobile smartphones as well, with a similar look and feel.
The Control Panel's replacement by Settings is just a matter of time, and the options are slowly migrating to new builds, and once Redstone becomes stable, the transition will be complete.
Without a doubt, Microsoft is aiming for a modern desktop in Windows 10 Redstone, so we expect the legacy elements from Windows XP to disappear when the update is released this summer.
