Su Bin, a 50-year-old Chinese businessman who lives in Vancouver, Canada, pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy to infiltrate the networks of defense companies handling classified military programs of the US military and intercept sensitive information belonging to the US Air Force.
According to information disclosed today by the US Department of Defense, Su Bin, also known as Stephen Su or Stephen Subin, attempted, with the help of two Chinese hackers, to breach the computer networks of various US military suppliersoperating in the aerospace industry, including the giant Boeing Co.
Su's role was to seek out and gather information for his targets, using his business connections as the owner of a company active in the aviation and aerospace sectors. According to evidence that has come to light, Su had communicated with the two hackers via email, indicating the people he wanted them to hack, the networks to target, and the technologies to intercept.
The attempted breaches took place between October 2008 and March 2014, and during that period, the hackers managed to infiltrate various computer networks, sending Su lists of the content they were accessing, while he himself instructed them on what to intercept.

Su is accused, among other things, of trying to intercept information about the C-17 strategic transport aircraft, as well as several other fighter jets, including the famous F-35 model. However, US officials discovered the attempted breaches before any potentially dangerous information was intercepted and filed charges against Su in July 2014.
Su pleaded guilty, and the case is scheduled for trial on July 13, 2016. Su faces up to five years in prison, as well as a $250,000 (€223,800) fine.
