Qualcomm is being ordered to pay a record fine in China of $975 million for unfair competition practices, while it is being forced to revise downward its rights for the patents it grants to companies such as Xiaomi and Huawei.
The company stated that it respects the decision of the competent Chinese government authority, estimating that it is rather unlikely that similar penalties will occur in the US and Europe.
The case dates back to 2008 and the investigation lasted 14 months. Qualcomm will now revise its financial results, taking into account the huge monetary fine it is required to pay.
