We've finally learned the details at the heart of 's lawsuit Nintendo against Pocketpair, maker of Palworld, related to the Pokémon.

When Nintendo announced it had filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair over Palworld – also known as “Pokémon with weapons”. The monsters can either fight alongside the player in battles, or work at a base, crafting supplies and items for use in the field. In January, The Pokémon Company said it planned to investigate allegations that Palworld had copied its games after fans pointed out similarities. It also said it would take “appropriate action” if it found that its copyrights had been infringed, while Pocketpair said it was unaware of any such allegations.

However, there have been some well-documented cases, such as one involving throwing a Poké Ball at a creature within a virtual world.
Pocketpair confirmed in a statement Friday that the lawsuit centers on three patents. Two of them relate to the idea of throwing a Poké Ball and how works in a video game, while the third concerns another mechanism. All of these patents were filed in Japan, but correspond to similar ones filed in the United States in recent years.

Additionally, Pocketpair revealed that the injunction is seeking 10 million yen: 5 million for Nintendo and 5 million for The Pokémon Company. “We will continue to defend our position in this case through future legal proceedings,” Pocketpair said in its statement.
