If, on the other hand, you're one of the few who thought of a Sony phone, then you're probably a fan of the Sony Xperia smartphone line.
Known for their excellent cameras and unique displays, Xperias have captured a significant share of the market, thanks to the premium feel they offer.

The Sony Xperia 1 V, released last year, disappointed us, as Sony seemed to repeat familiar features from previous Xperia models. The next step for Sony is the Xperia 1 VI, which is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2024, with the first renders already leaked.
Popular mobile phone leaker OnLeaks recently published renders of the Sony Xperia 1 VI, confirming a significant change in screen dimensions for Sony's flagship smartphone, as reported by AndroidHeadlines. Since 2019, Xperias have offered a 21:9 screen ratio, adapted to the ratio mainly used in the film industry for displaying movies.
The most popular modern smartphones have now approached the ideal dimensions, but they have not yet reached the optimum. Recent leaked details for the Xperia 1 VI reveal dimensions of 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4, making it thicker, shorter and wider compared to the Xperia 1 V. Furthermore, previous leaks indicate that Sony is moving towards a 19.5:9 display, which is common on devices from Samsung and Apple.
Back in 2018, which seems like a century ago compared to the current debate, we surveyed our readers about which screen ratio they preferred. The classic 16:9 ratio came out on top with 42%. While the survey wasn't scientific and preferences have changed over the years, a more compact and inclusive screen seems to be the general preference of the public. While the 21:9 ratio is ideal for watching movies, how often do people actually use smartphones for this purpose?

The Sony Xperia 1 VI is expected to be released in May, however, it is likely to lack the signature 4K display that has somehow made the series famous. 4K content is only displayed in this resolution, while the screen switches to 2K for any other use of the phone, such as browsing the web.
Sony has been focusing heavily on Xperias lately, which we can see from the early release of Android 14 for the Xperia 1 V. We hope that the sixth version of this model will take better advantage of its capabilities compared to the previous one.
